We have been focussing on number 6 with P.2 playing ‘Shake, shake, break’ to record the components of 6 using a part / whole model.
This week has seen the children develop their understanding of different patterns and continuing and devising their own repeating patterns. They have used a range of commercial and natural materials and have used different techniques including printmaking.
On Friday we had the second of our Food Fridays and we can safely say that the crusty bread, ham and cheese were firm favourites!
Primary Two have been investigating all the colour combinations that can be made when using three cubes of two colours.
The month of November gives us the continued opportunity to participate in more Autumn activities and go outdoors to experience some typically seasonal weather. We didn’t mind though as we were suited and booted for the occasion!
We have been learning about hibernation and have been making our own play dough hedgehogs with lots of spikes!
We have been exploring the beautiful Autumnal shades of the leaves from the trees at the front of our school and used them to make our leaf kebabs.
Don’t we all look great on our dress up day!
Hoping all our pupils and families have a fabulous half term break!
On our cookery day in our Autumn Fun Week here we are enjoying making our edible owls using rice cakes, chocolate spread and fruit slices. Eating them was the best part!
We had great fun with P.3 and 4 at our Light Party!
Our Outdoor play took on an Autumn theme this week. The children were busy making potions and perfumes, rescuing the minibeasts from our oobleck slime and hammering nails to make the spines for our hedgehogs
We also enjoyed having a visit from our Primary 7 friends who shared stories and played number games with us
We have been enjoying taking part in arts and crafts as part of our Autumn Fun Week. Primary 2 made clay apples for their apple trees and Primary 1 made cats and pumpkins.
Thank you to our Parent Support Group for the yummy hot chocolate treat today!
Primary One have been making ‘s’ snakes as they begin their learning on letter sounds.
Great fun today as we had a competition to see whether the boys or the girls could find the correct number first when given clues to reinforce number sequence.
As part of learning about opposites, we took part in practical matching activities both in and outside the classroom.
Time to engage in some seasonal outdoor activities!!
Primary One continue to build up their number skills through games and activities which also focus on developing fine motor skills.
We have been enjoying stories about Elmer the patchwork elephant and have been creating our own versions whilst thinking about different patterns and designs.
We enjoy taking on roles during outdoor play. Can you imagine the conversation going on here?
In Literacy we have been sequencing the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?’ Great work from Primary 1 on recalling the story in the correct order.
We have been using our cutting and sticking skills to show our recall of story characters.
P.2 have been experimenting using the JIT App to create our digital portraits
We have been developing our fine motor skills by tearing, spraying and threading to add colour to the family portraits we have drawn.
Primary 2 have been working outdoors this week on number sequence, practising recording the number that comes ‘before’ and ‘after’ a given number within 20.
We have been enjoying the period of settled weather allowing us to get outside and have fun engaging in outdoor learning activities.
Playing games helps to learn and develop our turn taking and counting skills.
Primary 2 have been working on the idea of intersecting sets by discussing the things they like and representing these on a Venn diagram.
.Today we were practising our cutting skills by chopping up some salad leaves.
As part of our topic work on colour, we have been experimenting with mixing new colours and shades.
Primary One have been developing their pencil hold and tracing skills whilst our Primary Two pupils have been learning how to set their writing out along a line. Great work everyone!
P.2 have been thinking about the difference between a sentence, a word and a letter. They also were making sentences using high frequency words.
Look how P.1 have been developing their fine motor skills by threading, using pegs and tongs. We have also been practising our counting and one-to-one correspondence.
This week we have been busy looking closely at objects and sorting them into sets based on colour and shape. We have been thinking carefully about which objects ‘belong’ and ‘do not belong’ in the same set and giving reasons. We also have been using a ‘tree diagram to help us sort the names of children in our class in different ways.
We welcome our new Primary One children who are looking very smart in their school uniforms!
We are so proud of our new Primary One pupils who have settled in so well in their first week!
