P6/7

P6/7 participated in a drama activity where they were News Reporters for the day.  They have been looking at autobiographies and biographies and so they were basing their news report on the content of a biography they have been looking at.  They all participated really well!

Many thanks to our Parent Support Group for organising another Hot Chocolate Friday.  The children always look forward to this delicious treat!

We have been learning about colons and semicolons in lists and where they need to be placed.  The children worked in small groups to complete the Mystery Backpack Challenge.  This is where they were given two lists and they had to write each of them into a sentence with colons and semi-colons.

Our P6/7 class are taking part in 'The Medics in Primary Schools' (MIPS) programme. This provides an opportunity for medical students and primary school pupils to develop their communication skills.   Students have a placement one session a week for up to eight weeks in the autumn semester in a primary school, during which they deliver a science and health education programme to upper primary pupils, and develop their own communication skills in working with young people.

The aims of Medics in Primary Schools are:
1. to enrich the teaching and learning of health education in primary schools,
2. to provide young role models in the classroom, and raise awareness of the work of medical professionals.
3. to improve communication between medical professionals and young people.

P6/7 have really enjoyed their sessions so far and are looking forward to the remaining sessions.

As part of Mental Health Week, P6/7 worked in groups to create a poster on how to manage stress using the Adobe Express programme.

Kathryn and Maria from RISE NI have been visiting our P6/7 class to deliver the .Breathe Programme.

.breathe is a four-session programme aimed at the school ‘transition’ years of ages 9-14.

In particular, .breathe explores issues around:

• Working with concentration and focus; exploring how we can work with a wandering mind.
• Why humans worry, and how to support ourselves when we do so.
• Sleep: why it is important and what to do if we struggle to sleep well.
• Being with others: the opportunities and challenges of working skillfully with friendships and other relationships, both in person and online.

On Remembrance Day our P7 pupils walked down to the Moy War Memorial to participate in their own act of remembrance.  It began with Holly reciting the Exhortation, followed by a two minute silence and then the poem 'In Flanders Fields' was read by each child reciting a few lines.  The two wreaths were beautifully made by our P6/7 pupils by weaving their own poppies.

During Autumn Fun week the children completed some lovely pencil sketches of pumpkins.

During Autumn Fun Week we made some lovely mini-pizzas and rice krispie buns which everyone really enjoyed.  The children also got to dress up in their dress-up costumes.

P6/7 completed their recent artwork by starting off by painting a colour wheel which was then transformed into an eye.

P6/7 have just started a 10-week programme of free Lambeg drum tuition on Monday mornings.  This is conjunction with the Ulster Scots.

P6/7 went to Shannaghmore Residential Centre in Newcastle.  They all had a fabulous time away.  They took part in activities such as bouldering, archery, an adventure walk in Tollymore Forest Park, the high ropes course and raft building.  This was such a great experience for our pupils and they will have memories to cherish forever!

Welcome to the P6/7 page, we hope you enjoy seeing what we get up to in school.
